Form and Function in the Bathroom

A stunning Rogerseller bathroom creation

Jo Jackson, Rogerseller’s Group Manager of Design, talks about bathroom design and how the Rogerseller team works with architects, designers and homeowners in creating timeless bathroom designs.

In our last newsletter we looked at how suppliers were adding value to the specification process, helping to support projects that were delivering a high level of client satisfaction, as well as supporting the homeowners throughout the process. It’s a comprehensive service that Rogerseller prides itself on.

Q. Rogerseller has been a leading supplier of bathroom pieces for decades, but you also work really closely with clients to help them with their specifications from architects and designers. What sort of assistance can Rogereller provide?

Our showroom teams have extensive product knowledge so are able to offer practical advice for clients that are unsure of the requirements that will need to be considered for installation. With this knowledge we’re able to guide clients to a beautiful solution that is also practical, to ensure that the selection and decision making process then leads to seamless delivery and installation. As we’re specialists in bathrooms and kitchens, we can offer holistic solutions to complete an entire room. Our showroom spaces provide the opportunity for clients to touch and feel products, making the process easy for the client.

Q. Many bathroom renovations are carried out by homeowners who are planning a family or already have young children. How do you balance the need for a robust product profile that will survive the rigours of a young family and yet provide the flexibility of providing a timeless space during later years?

Our ranges are flexible enough to provide options for both adult and family spaces, however all products are united in their ability to be timeless and durable. At Rogerseller we believe that design doesn’t have to be compromised to meet family requirements – for example our sanitaryware range from Catalano offers beautifully designed products all with their unique anti-bacterial, anti-crack cataglaze technology – meaning both the design and the quality will stand the test of time.

Q. Sustainability and the reduction of toxic materials is important for young families. What are some of your leading suppliers doing in this space?

We are very fortunate to be partnering with brands and suppliers that are world leaders in their category, not only in design but also in their use of sustainable materials and manufacturing processes. A great example are the baths and basins by our partner Claybrook – manufactured using a material called Marbleform, which is a mixture of recycled crushed marble and resin. Produced using recycled water, low power machinery to optimise electricity use, and packed in bio-degradable and recyclable packaging – this is just one example of the steps our suppliers take to ensure that their products have a low environmental impact and are not harmful to the user.

Q. What are some of the innovative design solutions that you are seeing from your A&D clients when they are designing a bathroom for a young family?

Designing for a family means beautiful design solutions with versatility, easy maintenance and durability. So we are working with our A&D clients to offer flexible storage solutions, such as Falper vanities, rimless toilets that are more hygienic and easier to clean than a standard box rim toilet, and bath and shower solutions that can be used by the entire family.

Q. Most young families are working to a defined budget, what are the three pieces to invest in that will ensure a smart investment long term and why do it?

1. Good quality tapware – a tap that saves water, is built to last with quality cartridges and finishes, and is timeless in its design – exemplified by our Eccentric range.

2. Invest in good quality accessories with a durable finish, as well as fixings. There are a lot of inexpensive accessories available such as paper holders and shelves made from flimsy materials with inadequate fixings. These pieces will endure a lot of use and by investing in quality products first time, will avoid multiple replacements over the years.

3. Good quality sanitaryware that is easy to clean and has a high quality glaze that will not crack or discolour over time.

Q. How does Rogerseller work in harmony with designers, architects and builders, who are then working with their clients? For example how are you keeping your clients up to date with the latest product releases?

We launch new products throughout the year and communicate these launches through a number of channels – our Business Development Managers have excellent relationships with the A&D community and are seen as trusted partners and advisors in the field of kitchens and bathrooms. We also hold regular events in our showrooms in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne to present the new products and latest trends from our visits to international design shows, such as Salone del Mobile held in Milan every April. Of course, we utilise our social media channels, such as Instagram, that has a growing number of followers each month keen to see our timeless design solutions.

Q. Finally what do you see as they key change in the way your A&D clients are designing bathrooms over the coming five years?

Bathrooms are a sanctuary for wellness as well as a functional space – therefore we’re seeing designs that require beautiful, tactile materials and shapes that delight the senses. Further to this, there is growing focus on water saving and environmentally friendly solutions, where we are well placed to provide the products to meet this need. Another growing trend in the bathroom, as in the rest of the house, is the use of smart technology, again something that we are focussing on to deliver for our clients.
